Stade Francais' South African prop Heinke Van der Merwe had surgery on a torn biceps tendon Tuesday that will keep him out of action for four months, according to the Parisian club's coach Gonzalo Quesada.
The 29-year-old Van der Merwe, capped four times by the Springboks, sustained the injury in 23-3 defeat by Montpellier earlier this month.
Van der Merwe arrived at Stade Francais in summer 2013 and quickly established himself as one of the Top 14's leading loosehead props.
