South Africa to probe match-fixing claims

The South African Rugby Union (SARU) said Thursday they are probing allegations of club matches being fixed in the Western Cape.

SARU president Oregan Hoskins said in a statement that an unnamed attorney would investigate whether matches in the Boland region were fixed.

"Allegations that results may have been fixed -- or that an attempt was made to rig results -- are serious, no matter at what level," said Hoskins.

The president said the attorney was appointed after the national rugby body received a tip-off about possible match-fixing.

SARU gave no details about what form the alleged match-fixing took.
