Newcastle look for win against Brive

Newcastle face Brive on Saturday in pursuit of the bonus-point victory that will keep alive their Challenge Cup quarter-final ambitions.

The Falcons sit third in Pool One but could overtake the French leaders if they win at Kingston Park while scoring four or more tries, depending on the outcome of Enisei-STM's visit to Connacht.

A shock defeat to the competition newcomers from Russia last weekend has dented Newcastle's hopes of advancing from the group phase, but director of rugby Dean Richards hopes home advantage against Brive tips the balance in their favour.

"We're back in the north east for our final game and the focus will be on going out and winning," Richards said.

"We were in some ways unfortunate not to take the win against Brive over in France back in November.

"We certainly played a lot of good rugby and if we can use that performance as a starting point and add in good home support, then we should be well placed."

Grenoble's success at the Madejski Stadium last weekend has left London Irish's survival hanging by a thread with the Exiles visiting Agen, while Gloucester have already qualified as they prepare for a game at Zebre.
