Stephen Larkham was Friday confirmed as one of two new assistant coaches for the Wallabies 2015 Test season along with Nathan Grey, the Australian Rugby Union said.
Larkham will remain as head coach of the Super Rugby ACT Brumbies while Grey will stay on as defence coach of the 2014 champions NSW Waratahs.
"At this level, it's crucial that you have the best people and best possible high-performance programme in place if you are going to deliver winning performances for the Wallabies," head coach Michael Cheika said in a statement.
"I am confident we enter 2015 with an experienced and strong coaching and off-field team and I welcome the new appointments."
Cheika said Larkham, who played in three World Cups, not only had "incredible credentials" but "a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed in this environment".
Grey had done a "remarkable job" in Super Rugby coaching, he added.
Wallabies great Larkham had been touted in local media as a potential interim choice for head coach following the shock resignation of Ewen McKenzie late last year.
Grey is also a former Wallaby with 35 Test caps and two Rugby World Cup campaigns.
