How adidas became Prince Charming with rugby boots not a glass slipper

Rugby player Carl Griffiths has been able to return to the game he loves – after adidas made him a pair of size 21 boots as a surprise.

Griffiths, 22, who is 6ft 8ins tall, bowed out of the game in January because the size 18s he had been squeezing his poor feet into had worn out.

But help was at hand thanks to adidas, who swooped in like Prince Charming with a glass slipper.

The firm secretly knocked up a pair of its Kakari boots at their German headquarters and then had Wales’ pro, Sam Warburton, deliver the pair.

The whole thing played out on Twitter after Griffiths’ club, Trimsaran RFC, said he would have to quit without any boots to play in.

Wales’ George North also weighed in on the debate saying “he can’t retire”.

Warburton, said: “It’s great to have been involved in getting Carl back on the rugby field and you can tell it means a lot to him and his teammates.

“I’m sure they’ll be reminding him that he has some big boots to fill now though.”

Griffiths, who is thought to have Britain’s biggest feet, later tweeted his thanks.
