Edinburgh lock Fraser McKenzie has been handed a two-week ban after being found guilty of dangerous play during last week's defeat to Munster.
The 28-year-old former Scotland 'A' cap was shown a yellow card 12 minutes into the 28-14 loss at Thomond Park following a shoulder charge on Jack O'Donoghue.
His victim left the field on a stretcher after being knocked out and Guinness PRO12 chiefs have now decided to punish McKenzie for putting his opponent's safety at risk.
McKenzie appeared before a disciplinary panel in Cardiff on Wednesday and while he has avoided a more lengthy ban, he will now sit out Friday's clash with Connacht in Galway as well as next Saturday's Murrayfield meeting with Treviso.
The PRO12's written explanation confirmed the punishment, saying: "Although the disciplinary committee deemed that the player had not acted deliberately, his actions were judged to be reckless.
"It was deemed that the player's act of foul play was a lower end offence which has a sanction entry point of two weeks. The player will be free to play from October 10, 2016."
McKenzie had already been left out of the team to face reigning champions Connacht by caretaker coach Duncan Hodge.
