Super 15 side the Melbourne Rebels have appointed Brian Waldron as their chief executive.
Waldron is best known for fulfilling a similar role at the Melbourne Storm rugby league side where, during a six-year period, he oversaw their growth into the dominant side in the NRL.
Waldron told vicrugby.com/au: "The role with Melbourne Rebels is a rare opportunity to develop a successful high level sporting team from the ground up."
He added: "The Rebels will represent Melbourne in the international arena and I am looking forward to working with (chairman) Harold Mitchell and his team to build a club of which all Victorians and Australian rugby supporters will be proud."
The Rebels beat off competition from South Africa's Southern Kings franchise to land the 15th Super Rugby licence in November and have been given dispensation to sign up to 10 foreign players before beginning their inaugural Super Rugby campaign in 2011.
