Wests Tigers choose Taylor as new head coach

Troubled National Rugby League club Wests Tigers on Monday announced Jason Taylor as their new head coach in a move to put a tumultuous season behind them.

Taylor, the former coach of the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Parramatta Eels, has been an assistant coach under Trent Robinson at the Sydney Roosters for the past two seasons.

"Taylor has shown a strong desire to develop talented youth and has been exceptionally impressive in his aspirations to bring through the many young talented players at the Wests Tigers," the club said.

"Taylor is also a strong advocate for discipline and culture, saying that the club has strong foundations that he can build on as NRL head coach."

Taylor replaces Mick Potter, who was sacked earlier this month after a run of poor results and reports of a divided squad.

The Tigers finished 13th in the 16-team competition this season and Potter's contract was not renewed after two years in charge.
