Anderson wants more from Giants

Huddersfield coach Paul Anderson says winning must become a habit for the Giants after they crushed Salford Red Devils 42-22 on Good Friday.

Prior to the victory in Greater Manchester, Anderson's side had won just once in their six previous games.

But they had Aaron Murphy to thank as he notched a hat-trick at the AJ Bell Stadium, while Shaun Lunt, Danny Brough, Jermaine McGillvary and Australian back row Chris Bailey also helped themselves to tries in a comprehensive performance.

Francis Meli scored a hat-trick for Salford but couldn't prevent the Red Devils slipping up.

And now Anderson wants Huddersfield to push on with Wakefield next up on Monday.

"The real pleasing thing for me is that we won. I'm hoping it's only three days before our next one," said Anderson.

"Salford are very dangerous and we coped very well. Our attention wavered at times but to score 40-odd points against a team with their personnel is very pleasing.

"We looked real calm and composed in a lot of things we did."

Elsewhere, St Helens coach Nathan Brown conceded his side were below-par against arch-rivals Wigan as their 100 percent start to Super League was ended at Langtree Park.

Wigan went ahead through captain Sean O'Loughlin, but the Saints were level when Tommy Makinson crossed to become the first player to score 10 league tries this season.

Excellent running from Blake Green then set up Australian Dan Sarginson in the corner, before Liam Farrell grabbed the first of his two tries for the Warriors.

Makinson and centre Jordan Turner reduced the gap for the hosts, but Wigan's Farrell and teenage winger Joe Burgess ensured there would be no comeback from the Saints.

"They were far better than us," said Brown, whose side remain a point ahead of Leeds at the top of the table following the Rhinos' 46-6 victory over Bradford on Thursday.

"Sean O'Loughlin showed why he is one of the best players in the world -- he was far and away the best player on the field.

"You can't carry players against them and we had too many players out there not at the level they need to be to beat a champion side.

"We had some nice sequences of play in the first half but we turned the ball over too much in the second half."

Over at Craven Park it was Hull K R who claimed the bragging rights against Hull FC and Rovers coach Craig Sandercock claims it was the best win of his tenure.

Craig Hall's last-minute drop goal snatched a dramatic 21-20 triumph, but Rovers were 20-10 ahead after Michael Weyman, Kevin Larroyer and Graeme Horne scored.

Jordan Rankin crashed over to open the scoring for Hull FC on 12 minutes, while Danny Houghton and Fetuli Talanoa also crossed to eventually bring the scores level at 20-20, but it was Hall who had the final say.

"I'd have to say that was our best win since I came here, considering the amount of adversity," said Sandercock.

"Under those conditions, to win the game, the boys deserve a lot of praise.

"We had to win it all over again. There were a few times when I thought we were going to be home, but Hull, to their credit, fought back."
