Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones faces up to six weeks out with a shoulder injury picked up in the RBS 6 Nations defeat by France in Paris.

The 31-year-old lock was replaced on 51 minutes after hurting himself at a ruck during the 20-18 defeat on Saturday.

Jones, who had been touted as a possible candidate to lead the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand, will now not be available for his club Ospreys who are away at Treviso in the Guinness PRO12 this weekend.

Ospreys are also set to be without Jones for the European Challenge Cup quarter-final against Stade Francais on April 2 and also any potential semi-final tie should they progress.

A statement from the Welsh Rugby Union read: "Alun Wyn suffered a shoulder injury in the France v Wales RBS 6 Nations match at the weekend and, following scans and orthopaedic consultation, he will undergo an initial six-week period of rehabilitation."

Ospreys are set to play the final match of the regular season against Scarlets on May 6, with the Lions squad due to head off to New Zealand around three weeks later.
