George and Kruis hope Lions hear them roar before squad announcement

England forwards Jamie George and George Kruis can both put down British and Irish Lions selection markers when Saracens tackle their Aviva Premiership rivals Northampton on Sunday.

George captains Saracens in Milton Keynes, going head-to-head with current England hooker and fellow Lions hopeful Dylan Hartley, while lock Kruis makes his first Premiership start since Christmas Eve after recovering from a knee injury that meant he missed this season's entire RBS 6 Nations.

And the timing could hardly be better, with Lions head coach Warren Gatland due to name his squad for this summer's New Zealand tour on Wednesday.

Victory for Saracens would keep them firmly in contention for a home play-off tie in the Premiership play-offs next month.

But they will face Saints without rested fly-half Owen Farrell and lock Maro Itoje, while prop Mako Vunipola sits out the clash after suffering a knock to his knee during last weekend's victory over Harlequins.

"The important thing for us is that there has been a consistency in our performances," said Saracens rugby director Mark McCall, whose team are on a five-game unbeaten league and European run.

"We have a bit of thinking to do this weekend, because we've got a six-day turnaround before the European Champions Cup semi-final (against Munster).

"It is a huge game, and we need to be as fresh as we can, so we will need to look after a few people this weekend."

Elsewhere in the Saracens line-up, there is a Premiership debut for England Under-20 lock Nick Isiekwe, with Titi Lamositele replacing Vunipola and Schalk Burger returning to the back-row after injury. England number eight Billy Vunipola, meanwhile, is on the bench.

Northampton show two changes following their narrow defeat against Wasps last time out, with wing Ken Pisi replacing George North and centre Luther Burrell handed a start in midfield alongside Harry Mallinder.

Premiership leaders Wasps head to Bristol on Sunday, where a win for Dai Young's team would nudge their West Country hosts closer to relegation.

Rugby director Young welcomes back James Haskell and Nathan Hughes, with Guy Thompson at openside flanker instead of a rested Thomas Young, while one change in the Bristol line-up sees flanker Nick Fenton-Wells replacing an injured Jack Lam.

"It doesn't matter which team we are playing from here on in until the play-offs, the focus is on accumulating points," Young said.

"Every team we play now will have their own agenda and goal that they are fighting for, be it top four or top six, or a home semi-final.

"Bristol are fighting for survival in the Premiership, so it is a dangerous time to be playing them. We are expecting them to give it absolutely everything in a last-chance-saloon scenario.

"It's a massive game for both sides, with us needing to pick up points as we continue to battle for a home semi-final.

"Bristol showed last week how good they are and how close they came to upsetting the form book against Exeter at Sandy Park. They were unlucky not to get the win then, and we are certainly not underestimating the challenge that lies ahead of us."
